What does the war in Iraq really cost local taxpayers?

The next time a congressman tells you he or she is a fiscal conservative, point them in this direction:

— Find a list of the cities, towns and counties for which the National Priorities Project has calculated the taxpayer cost of the Iraq War.

By Minnesota congressional district:
  • 1 (Gutknecht) $811.9 million
  • 2 (Kline) will pay $1.2 billion
  • 3 (Ramstad) $1.3 billion
  • 4 (McCollum) $928.3 million
  • 5 (Sabo) $824.3 million
  • 6 (Kennedy) $1.1 billion
  • 7 (Peterson) $723.1 million
  • 8 (Oberstar) $751.5 million
  • All of Minnesota: $7.6 billion
