Warren Raised $5.7 Million for Senate Bid
By ABBY GOODNOUGH
NYT
BOSTON – Elizabeth Warren, the Harvard professor seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Senator Scott P. Brown of Massachusetts in November, announced Wednesday that she had raised $5.7 million in the last three months of 2011.
That tops the roughly $3.2 million that Mr. Brown raised over same period, which itself is no shabby total in a race expected to be one of the costliest and most intense in the nation.
Mr. Brown’s come-from-behind victory in the 2010 special election for the seat that Edward M. Kennedy held for decades made him a Republican superstar. Ms. Warren is known for her work as a consumer advocate; she set up the Obama administration’s new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and decided to run for office after President Obama did not tap her to lead it.
Although Ms. Warren has now outraised Mr. Brown in each of the last two quarters, he still has more than twice as much cash on hand: $12.8 million, according to his campaign, compared with $6 million for Ms. Warren.
