Why Is the U.S. on the ‘Wrong Track’?

Woe is us.
That’s the general mood that comes through when people are asked about the direction of the country. Overwhelming numbers believe that we are headed in the wrong direction.
But why? The quick answer is that the economy is sour and that’s a huge drag on national confidence. That’s the conventional wisdom.
But the results of a Politico/George Washington University Battleground Poll of likely voters released Monday make that conventional wisdom itself seem off track.
First, the standard question is posed: “Now, thinking for a moment about things in the country, do you feel things in the country are going in the right direction, or do you feel things have gotten off on the wrong track?”
