The morning after the House voted to repeal the health-care law, Speaker John Boehner walked into a TV studio in the Capitol complex to announce his next act: "a ban on taxpayer funding of abortions across all federal programs."

It "reflects the will of the people," Boehner proclaimed. "It's one of our highest legislative priorities."

"First repeal health care, now this.... What about jobs?" the first questioner asked after Boehner finished his abortion rollout. "I thought that jobs was the highest priority."

"Our members feel very strongly about the sanctity of human life," Boehner answered. "We listened to the American people."

Actually, Mr. Speaker, 63 percent of voters said the economy was the most important issue, according to exit polls for the November election. Voters asked for jobs - and you're giving them a culture war.

At Saturday’s New Hampshire GOP State Convention, the question was asked :
What Should The Most Important Issue Be For The GOP Presidential Nominee?
Outlawing abortion came in at number 9 … with 1%. Oh, and repealing healthcare came in with a whopping 7%.
The number one issue with 49% was reducing the size of government, next was reducing the size of the federal debt at 15% and stimulating the economy to create jobs at 14%.
That’s what the NH-GOP wants.

If you look at the list, the RSC recommended it included a number of programs that relate to foreign affairs {Economic Assistance to Egypt. $250 million annually;
International Fund for Ireland. $17 million annual savings;
U.S. Agency for International Development. $1.39 billion annual savings;
Subsidy to Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). $93 million annual savings;
etc.}
or, support / subsidize business interests {Technology Innovation Program. $70 million annual savings;
Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Program. $125 million annual savings;
U.S. Trade Development Agency. $55 million annual savings;
Eliminate Market Access Program. $200 million annual savings.
USDA Sugar Program. $14 million annual savings;
Eliminate Mohair Subsidies. $1 million annual savings; etc.}
… I guess it comes down to: should America participate in the global economy and involve itself in global activities, or just bury our heads in the sand ?

Maybe, the first thing we need to do is to have people tell us what function of the government do they want reduced.

BTW, one of the other items listed by the RSC is Legal Services Corporation. $420 million annual savings
BTW, Virginia Thomas of the Heritage Foundation wrote a report in 1999 protesting the funding increase to $340 million … she wrote “the first question Congress should ask is whether the federal government should be running this program at all” … heck, the LSC mission is pretty simple - since 1974, providing legal aid to the eligible poor.
Gosh, I hope were cutting this program because we do not have any more “poor”.

Oh, and Mr. Boehner did defend the healthcare reform legislation as a Jobs program ... you know, Job-killing ... err ... I think he said, Job-destroying.
