Minnesota appliance rebate application system overwhelmed ... as predicted
by Leigh Pomeroy

A month and a half ago I predicted to my state legislators that the application process for the Minnesota Trade-in and Save Appliance Program would be a mess. Well, that prediction is playing out right now as I wait for the online application servers to stop crashing and for the phone lines to stop telling me that all circuits are busy, please call back later.
This is hardly surprising. When you're running state government with the express purpose of destroying it, as Mr. Pawlenty is, what else would you expect?
Energy Star is a good thing. Rising political star is another matter....
FLASH UPDATE!
Our friend, brilliant raconteur, antique farmhouse and furniture restorer, Asian culture and history specialist, sculptor, screenwriter and confirmed German bachelor Thomas P. Hagen has just learned from the Minnesota governor's office that Mr. Pawlenty's last act before exiting his position will be to declare a new name for the former state of Minnesota ...
(No offense to the people of that lovely southern state located just west of Alabama.... NOTE: At 4:30 pm Monday I was able to get into the online form and secure the rebate reservation.)

Whatever
Rather than blame this on the real culprit: inept planning, blame it on a politician you don't like.
Minnesippi will never work. Mississippi is the leader in Earmark Spending ... with John Kline in the Second District, we will never get above the midpoint ... any idea what the latest is in return of the Minnesota dollar from Washington ? Last report from the Tax Foundation (which I believe Governor Deadbeat likes to use to cite that Minnesota ranks very high on Corporate Tax) said :
Federal Tax Burdens and Expenditures: Minnesota is a Donor State
Minnesota taxpayers receive less federal funding per dollar of federal taxes paid compared to the average state. Per dollar of Federal tax collected in 2005, Minnesota citizens received approximately $0.72 in the way of federal spending. This ranks the state 46th highest nationally and represents a decrease from 1995 when Minnesota received $0.78 per dollar of taxes in federal spending (44th highest nationally). Neighboring states and the amount of federal money they received per dollar of federal taxes collected were: North Dakota ($1.68), South Dakota ($1.53), Iowa ($1.10) and Wisconsin ($0.86).
And remember that was 2005, BEFORE Governor Haley Barbour got Katrina money for his state.
The Appliance Rebate program should have been a lessen for the roll-out of ObamaCare ... but once again, Republicans denied adequate funding for implementation.
