Minnesota High School Cancels Pro-War 'National Heroes Tour'

Response Is Outcry from Peace Groups and the Public

As the nation mourns 4,000 U.S. military deaths in Iraq, Forest Lake High School in Forest Lake, Minnesota, has canceled a pro-war event under the name of "The National Heroes Tour". Ostensibly, the tour was to provide students with "an educational opportunity to serve their country."

As many as 150 social studies students were expected to take part in "classroom level activities," which were to be closed to the public. The tour is sponsored by Vets for Freedom, a pro-Iraq War organization reported to be funded by the same group that behind the "Swiftboat" ads in the 2004 presidential election.

The cancellation of the event came in response to protests by Minnesota anti-war groups.
