Tales of Walz: Typical of Tim
From the Minneapolis Star Tribune, 11/8:
Fixing a blown tire transcends the bounds of political partyThe letter is here.
As Democratic newcomer Tim Walz was busy engineering his upset to get elected to Congress in Minnesota's First District, he wasn't too busy to help a rival political party on Oct 27.
Eleven days before the election, a car blew a tire outside Mankato; the vehicle was carrying four campaign field workers for Independence Party gubernatorial candidate Peter Hutchinson.
"We putted into a gas station and were looking through the manual to figure out where the jack and spare were when, all of a sudden, this man runs over and asks to help," said Julia Hutchinson, 21, the IP candidate's daughter.
The man was Tim Walz, and he took two of the campaign workers to town, helped them find a used tire, brought them back to the car and helped change the flat.
"He was very sweet, and we were just in awe about how helpful he was," Julia said. "We were thrilled to see him win, and cheered loudly."
