The voters help Gil keep his promise
When Rep. Gil Gutknecht entered Congress in 1995, he promised voters in Minnesota's 1st Congressional District that he would not serve more than six terms. He backed off from that promise to run for a seventh.
Voters, however, have excellent memories. And while Gil was hesitant to keep his promise, the voters, speaking through the election this past Tuesday, helped him to remain true to his ideals.
A note from the congressman, published on his weekly E-LINE, 11/9/06:

Dear Friends,For a related discussion, go here.
As you can imagine, this isn't the week I had hoped for. But, the U.S. House of Representatives is the people's house. And the people have chosen another direction. I will work hard over the next two months to ensure the people of Southern Minnesota are well represented in Washington.
It has been an honor and privilege to represent the First District over the past 12 years, and I look forward to new challenges in the future....
With warmest regards,
Gil Gutknecht
Member of Congress
