What does Gil really say about the war?

We missed this from Britt Robson on July 20. The bold is mine:

Gutknecht "goes wobbly," cuts and runs on Iraq

Earlier this summer, when Congress was debating resolutions about the future course of U.S. actions in Iraq, Minnesota's First District Rep. Gil Gutknecht said to his colleagues, "Members, this is not the time to go wobbly. Let's give victory a chance." Just weeks later, the front page of today's Washington Post (reg. req.) quotes Gutknecht, just back from Iraq, as saying that the situation is much graver than he'd been led to believe, and urging an immediate withdrawal of troops.

Gutknecht's comments are not printed anywhere on his campaign website. Indeed, the war in Iraq is not included among the website's top five issues, despite the fact that Minnesota has the nation's fourth-largest complement of troops in Iraq, with Gutknecht's district in southern Minnesota a particular hotbed of recruitment.

This was a month ago. Let's check out Gil's campaign website today (August 15). Hmmm, nothing posted about his trip to Iraq on the home page, media page or issues page. How about his congressional website?

Under Issues there is no mention of Iraq, but he does include it under the subheading War on Terror. Checking his Newsroom, there's still no mention of his recent trip, either. You'd think that a relatively obscure congressman, when he finally gets a bit of national publicity, would mention it on one of his websites. But no.

Maybe everyone on his two staffs is on summer vacation... including the person who was responsible for collecting signatures for and filing his petition of candidacy.
