Why was Porter Goss fired?
The mainstream press is still circling around the Porter Goss firing, trying to decide if the problem really was Goss's relationship with his boss, John Negroponte, or whether there is more to the story.
Harper's blog and TPM Muckraker have been on this story for some time, cuing off a Wall Street Journal story in late April suggesting that a former legislator serving in a high intelligence position was involved with the Duke Cunningham/lobbyist scandal. That description fits Porter Goss and almost nobody else.
Former Republican Congressman Bob Barr is among those suggesting that the resignation is connected to a series of poker/cigar/hooker parties arranged by a lobbyist named Wilkes at the Watergate hotel. Hookergate seems to be the shorthand.
