Facts about the proposed Minnesota clean car standards
The proposed Minnesota clean car standards:
- Only apply to new light- and medium-duty vehicles for sale in Minnesota.
- Do not affect biofuels or prevent Minnesota from supporting cleaner fuels.
- Do not apply to off-road or heavy-duty vehicles, farm equipment or semi-trucks.
- Do not apply to existing vehicles or used vehicles for sale.
- Do not require Minnesotans to purchase electric vehicles (EVs). Instead, they require car manufacturers to make more EVs available in Minnesota for those people who want them.
- Will go into effect, at earliest, Jan. 1, 2024. By that time, auto manufacturers will have ramped up EV production and released many more models to choose from.
- Will make our environment healthier to live in.
