Want to easily explain man-made climate change to a doubter?

Well, first of all it's tough. In some cases impossible.

Most anthropogenic climate change deniers don't want to read, let alone understand the science. They want their lives simple. They want to listen to the talking heads on Fox News or from wherever they're getting their information.

They want to believe their favorite right-wing politician. After all, he/she is Christian or a successful businessperson or a senator or a surgeon or a Harvard educated lawyer or whatever. Would such people lie to you? Or simply dismiss the facts? Oh heavens no!

Science denialism has a long history. It's part and parcel of the human psyche and of our civilization. If something goes against established belief, it's human nature to reject it. Humans are not computers. They do not operate on data alone. They're much more complicated than that.

But time and time again people DON'T WANT TO KNOW the truth. Or, in some cases, they make a lot of money or get lots of attention rejecting it.

But many very bright people will — SIGH! — keep trying to educate folks as best they can. (Confession: I'm one of them, though the adjective "bright" I admit is questionable.) Fortunately, there is plenty of data out there. Here is one graphic representation that hopefully, just maybe, might convince one questioning doubter that the scientists, many business leaders and most heads of state agree on — from Bloomberg: What's Really Warming the Planet.

Humans not only have the capacity to change the climate but have been doing so in a major way for at least the last 100 years. It's the truth. So get used to it.
