U.S. not the land of opportunity anymore
According to the Christian Science Monitor, taking data from the Legatum Prosperity Index, the United States is no longer the land of opportunity as some politicians and pundits would like to argue. In fact it's only #13 on the Entrepreneurship and Opportunity scale.
What's notable about the 12 countries ahead of it? All (except for Hong Kong, which is not really an independent country) have either socialized health care or government guaranteed universal health insurance.
Vox Verax has long argued that the greatest impediment to small business entrepreneurship in the U.S. is the lack of government sponsored universal health care or health insurance. The U.S. must take the burden of paying for health care off business. It must also fund health care based on not what is good (i.e. earned income) but on what is bad (i.e. things that make us sick, such as pollution and unhealthy foods).
'Nuff said.
