Nearly 6 in 10 Americans say wealth is distributed unfairly in the United States, and a majority want the federal government to play Robin Hood to fix the problem, according to a poll released Thursday.
Only 33 percent of Americans think the current distribution of wealth in this country is fair, according to the Gallup Poll, while 59 percent say it is not. Fifty-two percent said the United States should redistribute wealth through heavy taxes on the rich, while 45 percent disagreed.
While the percent of Americans who said the current distribution of wealth is unfair is down from 68 percent in 2008, the number of Americans who favor federal redistribution is at an all-time high.
There are predictable partisan and ideological divides on the questions. Forty-seven percent of conservatives believe the distribution of wealth is fair, compared wth only 17 percent of liberals. Only 26 percent of Republicans want the government to redistribute wealth, compared with three quarters of Democrats.

The results of the survey should not come as a surprise, anyone enjoys receiving more goods and services than what they actually pay (and many have come to expect it). A greater distribution of individual liberty would result in greater prosperity for all. As I've heard it described, "Trying to create heaven on earth is precisely what will make it a living hell for everyone."
To paraphrase Margaret Thatcher, liberals would rather the poor be poorer than the rich be less rich.
The problem for liberals is they chase the fantasy of equal participation in a growing economy not realizing an equal participation is simply not possible. In a growing economy some people might get richer than others. Liberals see that as an undesirable outcome and so their policies try to grow an economy through government 'investment' while being careful to prevent anyone get wealthy.
And we wonder why our economy continues to suffer the malaise it is in and has been for five years.
We are now a nation of enviers and so there is no political solution that will really make our economy grow. More or less, those who rely on government for as little as possible still have a chance to make themselves wealthy. Those who rely on government for their every need can only get wealthy by voting for Democrats to keep the gravy train going.
