Despite the charged American political climate that now envelops the issue of global climate change, the United States Navy is now boldly moving forward with plans to reduce their massive consumption of energy and foreign oil through a project called Task Force Climate Change. The service branch views energy independence and climate change as matters of national security. Imagine that!

Because the Navy doesn't have the luxury of professing a political opinion, it is required to make rational decisions based on a plethora of objective information. • Large land-fast ice sheets (particularly in Greenland and Antarctic) are steadily losing ice mass.
  • Global air and sea temperatures are warming.
  • Sea level is rising in certain areas.
  • Precipitation patterns are changing.
