Reporting from Washington

In the latest escalation of the state's battle over public employee union benefits, Wisconsin Democrats initiated an effort to recall Republican state senators who back Gov. Scott Walker's budget proposals.

"In 60 days you can take Wisconsin back by recalling the Republican senators who have decided to push Scott Walker's divisive attack on the rights of workers and his assault on schools, universities and local communities," state Democratic Party chairman Mike Tate says in a letter seeking funds for the recall campaign.

Wisconsin is one of only a handful of states that allows voters to unseat sitting lawmakers. Under state law, an elected official can be subjected to a recall campaign only if he or she has been in office for one year.

Republicans control the Wisconsin Senate with 19 of 33 seats. If Democrats successfully recalled three of the eight Republicans they are targeting, they would retake control of the chamber. Tate pointed out that one was elected by a margin of just 184 votes, another by just over a thousand.

If the Egyptian people can bring down a dictator after 30 years of police state rule, why can’t state employee unions bring down this Governor or at least start a Governor recall effort. This is the United States of America, re-learn how to do it yourself.

hate to point out the obvious, but move to Wisconsin and start the effort to recall Walker. Revolution starts somewhere, may as well start with you. you can teach others how to empower themselves to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

Don't ask me to move there and start a recall effort because I won't do it. Even though I own property in Wisconsin, I reside in Minnesota and have no intention of voting with my feet to recall a governor whose efforts I wholeheartedly endorse.

Maybe massive lay-offs are the answer for people to understand that we are broke and many states are in the position Wisconsin. Unions have brought down Greece they destroyed most European economies and now they are after this country. Unions are good if they perform the function for which they are intended, to save jobs, oversee job safety and adherence to labor laws, not get involved in politics and fill their own pockets. Unions have become corrupt and need to be reorganized. They are hurting the country an everybody who goes to work every day for 1/3 of the union workers in order to pay for our fat cat state employees. If you have enough time to move to Wisconsin in order to start a revolution, you either inherited money or you are backed by a radical group who want to bring this country down. This country will fall and you will see what it is like to work for a living everyday and not having enough to make ends meet because you are being taxed to the max so other people can retire in style without paying contributing. I have lived it and people in this country act like spoiled children there will be a lot of crying very soon.

Something I’ve been wondering about: If Walker eventually gets his bill passed, can it be reversed by a simple majority? And can they undo that nitwit ‘super-majority’ bill on taxes by simple majority?

Challenge the validity of the fleebaggers' voter registrations on grounds that they may no longer reside in the state. At some point, their continued absence will become problematic under the statute defining the residency requirements for maintaining one's status as a properly registered voter. In every jurisdiction and aware of, if you're not a registered voter, then you aren't qualified to hold ANY elective office. There may be no recourse if, as in this case, one's own actions precipitate one's disqualification as a voter – and, therefore, disqualification from membership in the state Senate.
