Economy, Gas, Partisanship and War Gang Up on Confidence in Government

Confidence in the U.S. System of Government Drops to a 35-Year Low

Confidence in the U.S. system of government has dropped to a new low in more than 35 years, with public attitudes burdened by continued economic discontent, soaring gasoline prices, record opposition to the war in Afghanistan -- and a letdown in hopes for political progress after a bout of bipartisanship last fall.

Only 26 percent of Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll say they're optimistic about "our system of government and how well it works," down 7 points since October to the fewest in surveys dating to 1974. Almost as many, 23 percent, are pessimistic, the closest these measures ever have come. The rest, a record high, are "uncertain" about the system.

The causes are many. Despite a significant advance, more than half still say the economy has not yet begun to recover. And there's trouble at the pump: Seventy-one percent in this poll, produced for ABC News by Langer Research Associates, report financial hardship as a result of rising gas prices. Forty-four percent call it a "serious" hardship.

Did Obama and Democrats from 2008 to 2010 have a contingecy plan in case their trillions of dollars in new borrowing and new spending didn't work out? Answer "NO"!

Did Obama and the Democrats from 2008 to 2010 have a contingency plan if gas went to $4 or $5 a gallon? Answer "NO"! I think it's fairly safe to say the country does not agree with Obama's energy policy of energy prices 'necessarily skyrocket'-ing. Windmills, solar panels and ethanol cannot power an economy of this size and cannot power the needed growth we are going to need to be able to pay back all that we have borrowed. How does the saying go? If you owe the bank $100 you have a problem, if you owe the bank $1M the bank has a problem. The US owes the world $14T so I guess the world has a problem.

Did Obama and the Democrats between 2008 and 2010 defund the Illegal Bush Wars and bring the troops home? Answer "NO"! Obama couldn't even keep his first promise as President to close Guantanamo Bay!!

And who exactly is the party of 'no'????

You can also easily conclude that the implementation of 'hope and change' has turned out to be an unmitigated disaster for the country. This is what happens when you don't vet candidates and just cheerlead them without investigating with any degree of seriousness how a candidate will govern.

Is it any wonder Obama's disapproval ratings exceed his approval ratings and is clearly on the ropes for winning re-election?
Answer....I think you get the point.
