Dems push back with torrent of polls

Democratic lawmakers and House candidates have released a flood of internal polling data in recent days, aimed at countering the perception that Republicans have the majority within their grasp and numerous Democratic-held seats are as good as gone.

Some of the Democratic polls have shown highly vulnerable districts still winnable for the party. Other releases have hinted at the limits of the Republican target list, putting members in late-emerging races comfortably ahead of GOP challengers.

The big-picture case the party is making — to an audience that includes members, donors and voters — is that Democrats are in a solid position to defend their hold on Congress, with a wall of well-positioned incumbents poised to turn back a Republican electoral tide.

Democrats played down the timing of the new polls, and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Deputy Executive Director Jennifer Crider told POLITICO: “We are just making sure, heading into the stretch, that people understand where things really are.
