2:07 p.m. | Updated SAN DIEGO — Addressing a group of black journalists, Shirley Sherrod, the fired Agriculture Department employee, said Thursday that younger African-Americans, whether they work in newsrooms, corporate suites or the Oval Office, ought to study up on the civil rights struggles that their ancestors endured.
And, yes, she said she meant to suggest that President Obama was in need of a history lesson.
“I need to have him down there so I can take him around and show him some of that history,” she said, reiterating her offer to give Mr. Obama a personal tour through Georgia and help explain remarks that were taken out of context by a conservative blogger and that led to her firing.
Ms. Sherrod also said she intended to sue Andrew Breitbart, the blogger, who runs BigGovernment.com and who posted the edited video of her making what appeared to be antiwhite remarks in a speech that was really about racial conciliation.
