Liberals analyze their Obama 'despair'

For many liberals, it is the summer of their discontent.
Already disappointed with President Barack Obama’s ability to deliver on his campaign promises, they now contemplate a slowing economic recovery and a good chance of Republican gains in November. Such developments would make enacting Obama’s agenda even more difficult.
Two recent essays framed the debate raging within the progressive community over why the promise of Obama’s candidacy has not lived up to their expectations — and how liberals should proceed in what they fear will be difficult months ahead.
In a 17,000-plus word piece published in The Nation on Thursday, journalist Eric Alterman calls the Obama presidency “a big disappointment” for progressives and blamed a broken system in Washington that he says allows the minority party to rule with impunity, and special interests and big money to dictate legislative policy.
“Face it,” he concludes, “the system is rigged, and it’s rigged against us.” His essay is subtitled “Why a progressive presidency is impossible for now.”

This is just laughable. Absolutely laughable. Obama had a significant majority in the House and a Filibuster proof Senate after Franken was seated. They could have passed anything and everything that is the progressives wet dream - and they're upset? As I said - laughable. But, only Obama is to blame for whatever progressive failures the liberals see. Obama's problem is that he is not a leader. Forget what Obama inherited (never mind he was in the Senate since 2004 and therefore culpable for whatever he inherited after ascending to the presidency). But, what is it that has the progressive so up in arms?
GM and Chysler are now controlled by the government and owned by the unions. Health Care reform - the final bastian of FDR's 'new deal' - has been enshrined in to law. The public sector now makes 45% more than their private sector counterparts. While the private sector is shriking, the public sector is booming under Obama to the tune of over 2 million federal workers alone 20% of which make 6 figure salaries. Congress has pushed every government make-works bill under the sun and funded unemployment for two years. Obama will be taking over the energy industry with Cap And Trade. Obama will be controlling Wall Street and the major financial institutions. Obama has implemented staggering restrictions on credit card companies. Obama implemented an inunction against off-shore drilling only to have the injunction lifted by a judge and he goes after the injunctions again in appellate court. Obama will be offering amnesty to the 20 million Hispanic illegals ensuring their vote in future elections. The lame duck Congress will be taking up 'card check' legislation preventing secret ballots for union initiatives. Obama removed tax implications from union health plans during the health care reform initiative. Obama is clearly the most anti-private sector president in our history and every decision he has made is for the an end - and that end is more power for the federal government, for himself and the Democrats. Obama is the embodiment of the 'living Constitution' progressives love - when we have a 'living Constitution', the meaning of it and laws passed under it can change overnight as circumstances dictate or a political reading of it would dictate.
It is apparent that no level of federal government hegemony will be enough to satisfy the progressives when Obama has ruled - not governed, but ruled - with a progressive iron fist.
