Gonzales supports CIA investigation

Attorney General Eric Holder got a political boost from an unlikely ally today: Alberto Gonzales.

Gonzales said he supports Holder's decision to investigate possible abuses in CIA prisons.

As White House Counsel for President Bush's first term and Attorney General from 2005 to 2007, Gonzales had a key role in developing and defending administration policy regarding the treatment of prisoners.

"We worked very hard to establish ground rules and parameters about how to deal with terrorists," Gonzales told The Washington Times "America's Morning News" radio program. "And if people go beyond that, I think it is legitimate to question and examine that conduct to ensure people are held accountable for their actions, even if it's action in prosecuting the war on terror."
