Healthcare: A simple plan
Healthcare reform? Very simple. Congress just needs to pass the following resolution:
RESOLVED:
1. That no citizen of the United States shall receive a health care benefit at value anything less than a member of the United States Congress, and that all legislation required for compliance to this resolution be enacted within one year of the passage of the resolution.
2. That any corporation in the business of delivering or insuring for healthcare be organized on a nonprofit or not-for-profit basis.
3. That any individual in the business of delivering healthcare be compensated on a salary rather than fee-for-service basis.
4. That costs for medical school, nursing school or any other school providing certified, rigorous training in a healthcare profession be reimbursed to any individual going into a publicly owned healthcare service on a sliding scale basis commensurate to the time served in the public system.
Seem far-fetched? Not at all. The model for #2 and #3 is already widely used in the U.S. A good example is the Mayo Clinic.
The model for #4 is already employed by numerous countries throughout the world, including France and Canada.
