July 20 (Bloomberg) -- A few days after hijacked planes smashed into the World Trade Center, reporters asked President George W. Bush about his plans for Osama bin Laden.
“There’s an old poster out West,” Bush replied. It says, “Wanted, Dead or Alive.”
Ten days after the attacks, Congress authorized Bush to “use all necessary and appropriate force” against whomever was responsible.
And the following month, the Washington Post reported that Bush had signed a secret document authorizing the targeting of al-Qaeda leaders.
So what’s the big deal, you may wonder, about the latest revelations? Now we learn that somewhere deep in the Central Intelligence Agency, agents tried for seven years to create assassination squads to capture or kill the men behind the Sept. 11 attacks.
