Following is a report card on House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and the stimulus package.
On Boehner:
Thomas E. Mann, Brookings Institution
“No better than C-minus. ... His tone is often shrill, his criticisms partisan and ideological, his every move seemingly designed to placate his conservative base — a far cry from his days as a serious legislator who worked both sides of the aisle.”
Ron Bonjean, GOP strategist
“Boehner gets an A for triangulating Speaker Pelosi away from President Obama. One-party rule for Democrats can be very addictive to its leadership.”
Robert Borosage, Institute for America’s Future
“Surely he gets a B-plus at least for his tan. For leadership in this crisis, he fails abjectly, unable to lift himself out of partisan posturing and ideological incoherence.”
