Lion of the Senate Feels Fine

Ted Kennedy acted as if he were surprised at the question.

"Fine," he said, seemingly puzzled that people would be inquiring about his health. "I feel fine."

And he looked fine, too: His white mane neatly trimmed, his complexion in its trademark ruddy hue, and his midsection still ample. Kennedy walked with a silver-handled cane, but he otherwise showed no evidence of brain cancer or chemotherapy treatment.

His return to the Capitol, celebrated with a photo op outside the Russell Rotunda, was greeted as a major news event. There were five television cameras, several times that many reporters and photographers, and cops to maintain order.

"One minute!"

"You good, Charlie?"

"Heads up! Here he is!"

"I see him!"

Kennedy emerged from the elevator accompanied by his wife, Vicki, and their two Portuguese Water Dogs, Splash and Sunny. (Note to the Obamas: a hypo-allergenic breed!)
