GOP hopefuls run in a hypocrisy derby

Everybody knows that Mitt Romney was running - as Rudy Giuliani put it - a "sanctuary mansion." But not many people know that he was not the only one.
No less an anti-immigrant zealot than Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), the would-be President who built a failing campaign on the single issue of persecuting "criminal aliens" - as he is fond of calling undocumented immigrants - also has a few skeletons in his closet.
Listen to this: Five years ago, when Tancredo wanted to install a home theater and make other renovations in his house, he had no qualms hiring a contractor that - gasp! - also employed undocumented workers.
The man who had said, "[The face of illegal immigration] is the face of murder. It is the face of infiltration into the country of people who are coming to do us great harm," wasn't at all troubled by the fact that only two in the crew of five or six laborers spoke English.
Forgetting his apocalyptic rhetoric, the fiery English-only champion simply looked the other way until his basement was completely transformed into his dream luxury playroom.
Tancredo "doesn't want us here, but he'll take advantage of our sweat and our labor. It's just not right," one of the workers told the Denver Post on Sept. 19, 2002, hitting the nail on the head.
He may never become the Republican candidate, but in the hypocrisy race, Tancredo is the front-runner. And what a close race it is!
Trailing Tancredo by a nose is our own Rudy Giuliani. If he is elected President, he promises - with a straight face - that he will crack down on the undocumented and fix the immigration crisis once and for all with uncompromising tough-guy measures.
But wait - can this be the same Rudy Giuliani who used to be New York's mayor?
