Mayo questions speed of Canadian Pacific takeover of DM&E

Clinic urges that environmental and safety concerns be properly addressed

The Mayo Clinic of Rochester, Minn., has filed a brief with the Surface Transportation Board opposing Canadian Pacific's schedule for its proposed takeover of the DM&E railroad. The brief list five reasons why the STB needs to look carefully at Canadian Pacific's application:
  1. The proposed procedural schedule is contrary to the public interest as it fails to provide sufficient time for meaningful negotiations.
  2. The Board should compel the applicants to verify DM&E's revenues.
  3. The Board should compel the applicants to provide meaningful operational information that addresses the future movement of [Powder River Basin] coal.
  4. The Board should compel the applicants to provide meaningful information that addresses the environmental effects of the transaction.
  5. The Board should compel the applicants to provide a safety integration plan.
The entire brief is available here.
