OK, [so Hillary] Clinton has no principles.

But what does the current Republican party stand for? Permanent war, fear-mongering, big spending, huge deficits, torture, execution on demand, secrecy in government, control over women’s bodies, denial of evolution, rejection of science…and chronic, habitual lying to the American people.

One third of the GOP is in the grip of a religious hysteria, fed by the science-fiction Left Behind series, and manipulated by pseudo-religious hustlers and hucksters like John Hagee and Pat Robertson. They are hoping for war in the Middle East because of religious delusions about the Rapture. Everyone who believes this delusion – according to George Monbiot, one-third of the Republican Party -- gets wafted out of their pajamas and sits at the side of Jesus to watch the slaughter. The Modern Republican Party: Right out of the Middle Ages.

This group closely overlaps with the yayhoo wing of the party, anti-integration southerners who have formed the basis of the GOP’s racist “Southern Strategy,” one of the most disgraceful political strategies ever to be implemented by a national party.

Another third hopes to destroy the federal government, in Norquist’s words, by shrinking it to the point where it can be drowned in the bathtub. Essentially every Republican member of Congress supports Norquist’s plan to bankrupt the government … and this is considered a position of principle.

The remaining third consists either of tribal Republicans who vote that way because Grampa hated FDR, or of businessmen who still haven’t figured out that a bankrupt country is not a good place to do business.

In short, this is a party that is morally bankrupt; it stands for nothing except war and bankrupting the country; believes in nothing except power for its own sake; is mired in scandal and failure, has nothing to contribute except to foist off on us the most unqualified president ever to hold the White House – an ignorant, arrogant man with no vision except to help the rich get richer -- and is reduced to nothing more than swift-boating opponents.

So, Charles…perhaps you’d like to try writing a column about The Core Principles of the Republican Party. Should be a very short column.

Could Krauthammer’s column be read as a tacit acceptance that Clinton would be a President that Big Business and the Neo-Cons could tolerate ? He says “if 2008 is going to be a Democratic year, as it very well could, Hillary would serve the country better than any of her Democratic rivals.” With Rove, Gingrich, Barrett and now Krauthammer, it seems to be that they are resolved to the weakness of the GOP candidates … so why not now see how they can nudge her to their viewpoint. And Krutkramer nails Clinton by stating the obvious … she has changed. She is now totally non-committal.
Krutkramer is wrong though when suggests that the designation of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization, would trigger serious economic sanctions that would greatly complicate its ability to operate. Sanctions don’t work especially when there are companies and countries that are willing to work around the sanctions.

I hope that Edwards and Obama quickly realize that these Republican endorsements should be used to show that Clinton may be just a grown-up Goldwater Girl that will continue to appease Big Business. Do you think that Krauthammer would really care if it was a Democrat or a Republican … he would only care if the next president is someone that they cannot influence … that is the fear of a Edwards, Obama or even Gore presidency would bring.

In the end, we may all agree with your assessment that [so Hillary] Clinton has no principles.
