Bono gives 'em heck at National Prayer Breakfast

LEIGH POMEROY

Bono gave the assembled guests an earful of what the U.S. has done well and what it can do better in terms of helping Africa at the National Prayer Breakfast this morning, which was broadcast on C-SPAN. Here is a transcript of Bono's speech.

Rep. Gil Gutknecht (see the article above, "Whatever happened to compassionate conservatism?") mentioned the National Prayer Breakfast in his weekly E-Line:
Thursday began with the national prayer breakfast. The event was attended by the President, heads of state, ambassadors, and national leaders from both parties. We began this legislative year by asking for help and guidance. There is no better way to get started.

The first act of the first Continental Congress was a prayer. Here's how it began: "Be Thou present O God of Wisdom, and direct the counsel of this Honorable Assembly; enable them to settle all things on the best and surest foundations."

Just as fitting today as it was more than 200 years ago.

Funny.... Gutknecht didn't mention anything about Bono's keynote speech, which surely must have tweaked some of the fundamentalist Christians and Republicans in the audience. Nor did he say anything in the E-Line about voting for the budget cuts that will hurt so many of the people in his district....
